The Vault doubles as a Network Area Storage device or Network Accessible Storage Device. As a result consumers can add files to a Vault through other means than ripping directly. They can also delete files from The Vault or edit metadata tags. It is strongly encouraged that consumers connect to a Vault regularly and back up their data and downloads to prevent data loss.
The below steps guide a consumer through connecting and accessing a Vault’s hard drive to add files, delete files, edit file metadata and backup a Vault’s contents to prevent data loss in the extremely rare event of a hard disk failure.
The Bluesound Vault can be used as a Network Area Storage device. It should appear as a network device in Windows Explorer or OSX Finder. You may connect to it by double clicking it and selecting the Shared folder. If it does not appear, locate the IP address of the Vault in the BluOS App. Select the Vault as the player, and press settings, Configure Player, Diagnostics. Note the IP address of the Vault. In Windows Explorer enter the \\Vault-IP\Shared where Vault-IP is the address you noted. In OSX Finder, select Go, Connect to Server and enter "cifs://" and then the Vault's IP address i.e: "cifs://192.168.1.XXX". When prompted, select the Shared folder. If prompted for a User ID, login as guest.
You should now see two folders; Music and rips. Rips is a work directory where CDs are ripped as WAV files, converted to FLAC or MP3 then deleted.
All files in the Music directory are indexed and played from the App. If you wish to copy files to the Vault for playback using it as an easy access NAS, the files should be stored in this directory for indexing and playback. Once copied, you will have to reindex your Vault for files to appear in the App for playback.
To back up files on your Vault simply attach an external storage device to your PC or Macintosh Computer and copy the contents of the Music folder to another location. Bluesound strongly encourages all consumers to back up their data regularly to prevent file loss or corruption in the rare case of a hard disk failure.
To remove tracks from the Vault, simply delete the undesired tracks. Once completed, please select Rebuild Index in the Music Library section of Settings in the App. Once the index is complete, the files will be removed from the App display for playback.
If you encode your files as both FLAC and MP3 when using the Vault to rip CDs, a third directory called MP3 will also be created. This is to not duplicate files in your Music Library index.
Once you have completed copying files to the Vault, in the App select Settings Reindex Music collection to process those changes.
