Why did indexing cause my Bluesound Player to restart

BLS-KB15-104

Introduction

When you add a network share or you have made changes to your Local Library and selected Reindex Music Collection or Delete Index, the changes are not reflected or your Bluesound Player restarts.

This can be caused by a metadata tag that is unreadable or a music file having no tags at all.

Resolution

The question is how to find the one file that is missing in a library of 40,000 songs.

In the Configure Player Menu, select Diagnostics and locate the IP Address of your Player (i.e. 192.168.1.101).

On a PC, Tablet or Smartphone on the same network as your Bluesound Players, open a local web browser such as Safari, or Chrome and enter the following command where 192.168.1.101 is the IP Address you located. Please type it exactly as written, as BluOS commands are case sensitive.

http://192.168.1.101:11000/Reindex?delold=1&logall=1

Once the index is complete or the Player reboots and returns to service, select DiagnosticsAdvanced Diagnostics in the Configure Player Menu to locate the Bluesound Player's Log file. Scroll through the lengthy log and locate the list of files indexing (see sample output below).

Note the last file read. In the above case it is located in the Multimedia folder on the NAS DC 4103 and is one of the files in O\Valery Gergiev\Tchaikovsky Symphonies 1-3 - 24 Bit.

Temporarily remove these files from your Library and Reindex normally.

Review the Metadata Tags of all the files in this folder cleaning up errors.  Once resolved, return these files to your Library and Reindex again normally.

If you are unfamiliar with Metadata Tags, please see BLS-KB13-916 Why is my Music not sorted correctly after Bluesound Indexed my music.
